* FACTS 43 (AVATAR)

Hi Friends!

1. The director of the movie, James Cameron, actually came up with the idea for "Avatar" back in 1999. Unfortunately, special effects were not yet properly developed and the movie would have been far too expensive to create, so it was put on hold for years.

4. James Cameron takes his directing role very seriously- So seriously in fact that legend has it if a cell phone rang on set, James would use a nail gun and nail it to the wall. He swears it's not true, though he did once nail 20 phones to a wall on the Leno show.

5. James knew that CGI was advanced enough to create the movie after he saw Gollum in the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

7. It tool 47 hours to render every 1/24th of a second of CGI. That explains why the film took over four years to create.

8. The 2D version of the movie was pulled from theaters in China, despite its insane popularity. The likely reason is because the message of the movie may have brought too much attention to oppressed people living in China.

9. Even the Cigarette Sigourney Weaver smokes in the movie is a digital effect.

10. The Na'vi language is entirely made up. James Cameron hired a linguist, Dr. Paul R. Frommer, to create a language that the actors could speak, but sounded nothing like English.

11. To prepare the cast and crew, James Cameron took everybody to Hawaii where they lived in the forests during the days and even created their own tribes. He wanted everybody to get a better sense of what it would feel to move around the Pandora jungle.

12. Sam was invented to the casting call over the phone, and before went he knew nothing about the script or that James Cameron was directing. He was really disappointed and figured it would be a waste of his time.

13. The word "Avatar" is Sanskrit for "Incarnation." it is used extensively in Hindu scriptures to refer to human incarnations of God.

14. It was the first movie to be shot is a 3D camera, released in 3D and in IMAX 3D to be nominated for the best picture academy award.

15.  In the original script, Neytiri's name was Zuleika, and Jake Sully's name was Josh Sully.
